ABOUT K.Z. OO

K.Z. Oo is an Australian Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist and expert witness for the Queensland Mental Health Court.
Since beginning her psychiatry career in 2013 and qualifying as a specialist in 2019, she has worked across public, private, and forensic mental health systems, including maximum security prisons and high secure forensic facilities. Her work involves assessing serious violent offenders and examining questions of guilt, motive, unsoundness of mind, and criminal responsibility.
Born in Burma, now Myanmar, she moved to Australia in 2009 to undertake a Master of Public Health at the University of Melbourne before obtaining general registration as a doctor. She commenced psychiatry training in Victoria and later completed advanced forensic psychiatry training at The Park Centre for Mental Health in Brisbane and Baillie Henderson Hospital in Toowoomba.
Her clinical background informs her fiction, which blends forensic realism with psychological depth and moral tension.
The Science of Indifference is her debut novel and the first in the Spectrum of Desire trilogy. The series explores not only why people cross moral lines, but what it costs to understand those who never felt them, or those who felt too much.
